Astronaut Pamela A. Melroy, pilot, is lowered into a deep pool (out of frame, bottom) as she simulates a parachute drop from a troubled craft into an ocean or other large body of water. Later, Melroy and her crew mates individually deployed life rafts in the NBL's pool and simulated signaling for rescue. This training exercise took place in the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL), part of the Sonny Carter Training Facility near the Johnson Space Center (JSC).
