Perched on the end of the Columbia's remote manipulator system (RMS) arm, astronaut Michael J. Massimino, removes the old solar array on the port side of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). Astronauts Massimino and James H. Newman went on to replace the array with a new one. A day earlier, two other astronauts accomplished the same feat on the starboard side.
