Equipped with a pair of gloves from a training version of an astronaut's extravehicular mobility unit (EMU) space suit, astronaut Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper rehearses possible techniques designed to repair a raised piece of thermal blanket on the Space Shuttle Atlantis's port side orbital maneuvering system (OMS) pod. Overseeing the exercise and offering expertise are Lora J. Bailey (left), TPS repair EVA engineering lead; and Dina E. Contella, TPS repair EVA operations lead. The simulation took place in the Johnson Space Center's space vehicle mockup facility. Two STS-117 crewmembers will repair the gap on a space walk later in the mission.
