The Russian Service Module for the International Space Station is shown under construction at the Khrunichev Space Center factory in Moscow in January 1998. The first fully Russian contribution to the station, the Service Module will provide early power, propulsion, life support, communications and living quarters for the station. It will be the third station element to be launched and join the US-funded, Russian-built Functional Cargo Block and the U.S. connecting module Node 1 in orbit
