During emergency exit training on the Fixed Service Structure of Launch Pad 39B, STS-102 Mission Specialist Paul Richards takes a closer look at the lever that releases a slidewire basket, used for emergency exits from the launch pad, to the landing below. He and the rest of the crew are taking part in Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test activities, which include a simulated launch countdown. STS-102 is the eighth construction flight to the International Space Station, with Space Shuttle Discovery carrying the Multi-Purpose Logistics Module Leonardo.
