In the Orbiter Processing Facility, the nose cap of the orbiter Atlantis is shifted to a horizontal position on a stand. The cap was removed from the orbiter for routine inspection. The nose cap is made of reinforced carbon- carbon (RCC), which has an operating range of minus 250 degrees F to about 3,000 degrees F.
