Astronauts John W. Young, Apollo 16 commander; and Charles M. Duke Jr. (nearest camera), lunar module pilot, rehearse some of the motorized phases of their scheduled extravehicular activity (EVA) assignments on the lunar surface. Young and Duke will take part in three different sessions of EVA on the moon while astronaut Thomas K. (Ken) Mattingly II, command module pilot, remains with the Command and Service Modules (CSM) in lunar orbit. The four-wheeled helper is called the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV).
