Backdropped against snowcapped Cordon del Plata of the Andes mountains, this view of the Space Shuttle Atlantis over Argentina was photographed by an Expedition Five crewmember onboard the International Space Station (ISS) during rendezvous and docking operations. Docking occurred at 10:17 a.m. (CDT) on October 9, 2002. The Starboard One (S-1) Truss, which was later attached to the station and outfitted during three spacewalks, can be seen in Atlantis’ cargo bay. Santiago, Chile is just out of frame in the upper right corner.
