Astronaut John L. Phillips, backup Expedition Seven flight engineer, participates in Minus Eighty-degree Laboratory Freezer for ISS (MELFI) training in the Jake Garn Simulation and Training Facility at the Johnson Space Center (JSC). MELFI will provide the International Space Station (ISS) with a low temperature freezer facility and nominal operating temperatures of –80, -26 and +4 degrees Celsius that will preserve experiment materials over long periods.
